Remote Education Procedure
Introduction
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we follow the Department for Education’s Providing Remote Education: Guidance for Schools, which sets out how schools must maintain the capability to deliver high‑quality remote education when pupils cannot attend in person. This guidance, most recently updated on 19 August 2024, applies to all schools in England and provides statutory and non‑statutory expectations.
Remote education is used only as a short‑term, last‑resort measure when face‑to‑face education is not possible or would contradict government guidance.
When Remote Education Will Be Provided (Statutory Guidance)
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we provide remote education when:
- School leaders determine that it is not safe to open, or that opening would contradict local or national guidance.
- A pupil is temporarily unable to attend school but is well enough to learn, for example due to an infectious illness that prevents attendance.
We ensure that pupils have access to remote education as soon as reasonably practicable, with provision proportionate to the length and impact of their absence.
Our Approach to Remote Education
Curriculum and Quality
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, our remote education offer ensures pupils have access to:
- Meaningful and ambitious teaching, aligned with what they would receive in school.
- A broad range of subjects across the curriculum to support continued progress.
How Remote Education Will Be Delivered
We use a range of approaches such as:
- Live or recorded teaching
- High‑quality pre‑prepared lessons
- Independent learning tasks and assignments
Remote education may include digital and non‑digital (paper-based) materials, reflecting the DfE’s recognition that remote education includes both online and offline learning.
The length of remote education will be equivalent to the core teaching time pupils would receive in school.
Safe Delivery of Remote Education
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we ensure that remote education is delivered safely by:
- Using secure and appropriate online platforms
- Maintaining safeguarding procedures during all remote learning
- Setting clear expectations for conduct during live or recorded sessions
The DfE requires remote education to be delivered in a way that protects pupils and staff.
Support for Pupils with Additional Needs
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we ensure pupils with SEND or additional needs can access remote learning through:
- Adapted resources and differentiated materials
- Additional sessions with teachers or support staff
- Alternative formats for learning activities
Provision is personalised wherever needed to ensure inclusion and equity.
Expectations of Pupils
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we expect pupils to:
- Engage with remote learning as fully as possible
- Attend live sessions where appropriate
- Complete work and meet submission deadlines
- Follow routines similar to the school day
These expectations support learning continuity and pupil wellbeing.
Support for Parents and Carers
Parents and carers can support remote education by:
- Providing a quiet place for learning, where possible
- Ensuring their child has access to a device and internet (or informing the school if help is needed)
- Communicating any issues or barriers that may affect engagement so that the school can provide timely support where needed, including challenges with technology, wellbeing or access to resources.
Attendance and Registers
As a Victorious Academies Trust school, we continue to record attendance even when pupils are learning remotely.
